I'm also excited about our refined vision for how to make Belwood even better. When I came to Belwood three years ago, we began to identify areas where our student population was changing and, therefore, identified new needs within our community as well. Fast forward two years, and we fully recognize the need to build and maintain stronger relationships not only with our students, but with their families as well. Furthermore, our two fastest growing groups within our student population and our community are our English Learners and our students from low income families. As a staff we are eager to find new ways to meet the learning needs of these students, but we are also eager to find ways to support their families as well. Belwood has always been dedicated to providing meaningful learning opportunities, but we must do a better job of engaging families in this process as well.
One way we plan to do this throughout the school year is by hosting various events on campus to simply provide opportunities for families to spend time together, and in doing so give our staff opportunities to get to know them better as well. Examples of these events are the Back to School Blast, Grandparent Lunches, Multicultural Days, Family Movie Nights, Family Picnics, etc. These are in addition to our regular academic-themed events and student performances, such as Math/Literacy Nights or Chorus Concerts. Our priority at Belwood is to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for our students, and we realize that we cannot successfully do this without engaging families and building relationships with them as well.
I am always open to your feedback regarding areas that we can improve in. If you have ideas or suggestions for how we can do a better job of meeting the needs of students or families, please call the school and schedule a time to meet with me in person, or feel free to email me at email@example.com. I'm also trying to embrace the world of social media through the school Facebook page and you can also follow me on Twitter @cmoore924. Feel free to make suggestions on either of those platforms as well.
I love this school and I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity to be a part of your child's and your family's life. Please contact me anytime, and I look forward to seeing you on campus soon.
